Maha al Douri is a Shiite lawmaker who once was a Sunni. Douri won the most votes as a woman in Iraq's elections in 2010 and is a staunch supporter of cleric Muqtada al-Sadr. Her recent statement is a message from the Sadr movement to Kurdish officials who argued that the U.S. armed forces should stay in the disputed regions of Iraq to prevent conflict between Arab and Kurds.
Foreign analysts also suggested it might be better to keep a presence in the disputed areas to prevent conflict. A study of RAND concludes that “unless and until [Iraqi] politicians succeed in addressing the strategic challenges that destabilize the region, a U.S. military presence will be needed in northern Iraq to prevent such a breakdown.”
MP from the Ahrar bloc, Maha Al Duri, said "Kirkuk is an integral part of Iraq, and the term (disputed areas) is an American-trap to divide the country."
She said in a statement "the occupation is making the issue of the disputed areas a reason to blackmail the central government politically, economically and militarily. Every foot of the country is Iraqi, we reject the presence of occupation forces on it."
She made clear "Iraqis can solve their problems by themselves and there is no need to keep the occupation, which will make the situation worse, complicate the situation and ignite strife in order to serve its strategic interests in the region."
Article 140 of the Constitution marked the areas claimed by the Kurds in a number of disputed areas, while, the Arab component refuses this term and considers that it is not proper to name lands under sovereign state - NINA news
